【講義方法／Study Method 】
授業は、小人数クラス(25人定員)かつ英語で行います。講義は、法学部教授の浜井浩一と古川原明子、社会学部教授の津島昌弘の3人が担当します。
Each lecture is based on a small class (max. 25 people) and in English.
This lecture will be given by Koichi Hamai and Akiko Furukawahara, professors in the Faculty of Law, and Masahiro Tsushima, professor in the Faculty of Sociology.
【授業外学習（自主学習（事前・事後学習を含む））の指示／Direction related to study out of class 】
日本の法律、社会、文化に関する文献や情報の収集、法令や判例のリサーチメソッド、社会調査や統計処理のノウハウについても、基本的な情報を提供します。より深く学び、本格的に犯罪学知見を身につけたいと思っている人は、主体的・能動的にリクエストしてください。
Basic information is also provided on collecting literature and information on Japanese law, society, and culture, research methods for laws and precedents, social research, and statistical know-how. Those who wish to learn more in-depth and acquire serious criminological knowledge are encouraged to ask the information on a proactive and active basis.
【系統的履修／System of study 】
特別研修講座「矯正・保護課程」を受講し、刑務所や少年院、鑑別所や更生保護施設などの刑事司法関連施設の参観プログラムに参加することをすすめます。
We recommend you take part in educational programs (conducted in Japanese) of the Corrections and Rehabilitation Center in order to learn the practical situation in the criminal justice system and participate in the programs to visit the related correctional facilities.

授業は、英語で行います。英語を母国語とする留学生のみならず、犯罪や非行の問題を通じて、日本の司法や社会、文化を理解したいと考えている留学生のみなさん、そして、この問題を英語で学び海外で活かしたいと思っている学部の学生さんや矯正・保護課程の受講生のみなさんにも、是非、受講してほしいと思います。一緒に日本の犯罪と刑罰を学びましょう。
Classes are conducted in English. Not only international students whose first language is English but also international students who want to understand Japanese justice, society, and culture through the issues of crime and delinquency, as well as undergraduate students and students in correctional and protection courses who want to learn about these issues in English. I would invite you to attend this course. Let's learn about crime and punishment in Japan together!

【講義概要／Course outline 】
2016年6月に発足した龍谷大学犯罪学研究センター（Ryukoku University Criminology Research Center: CrimRC）は、犯罪予防と対人支援を基軸とする「龍谷・犯罪学：人に優しい犯罪学」を構築し、広く内外に発信することをめざし、その活動の一環として、授業プログラム"Ryukoku Criminology in English : Let’s study the Criminal Justice System in the secure and safe society!"（１５回）を開講しました。本講義は、そのプログラムを基盤としつつ、留学生を主たるターゲットとして、犯罪学の基礎である日本の犯罪や刑罰(刑事司法)の概要や特徴を学ぶことを通して、日本社会や文化についての理解を深めることを目的としています。授業では、犯罪統計の読み方、日本の治安、日本の刑事裁判、日本の刑務所・保護司や死刑制度などを取り扱います。授業は原則として英語のみで実施されます。
This class, primarily targeted at international students, aims to deepen students' understanding of Japanese society and culture through learning the basics of criminology, an overview, and characteristics of crime and punishment (criminal justice) in Japan. The class will deal with the analysis of crime statistics, public safety in Japan, criminal justice in Japan, Japanese prisons・probation services, and the death penalty. In principle, classes are conducted exclusively in English.

日本は、世界でも最も安心・安全な国のひとつと言われています。この授業は、龍谷・犯罪学の教育プログラムの構築とともに、日本の法、社会および文化を英語で学修したいという人たちの要望に応えようとするものです。
Japan is considered to be one of the safest and most secure countries in the world. This class, together with the creation of the Ryukoku and Criminology educational program, seeks to meet the needs of those who wish to learn about Japanese law, society, and culture in English.
