講義概要・到達目標
【到達目標】
日本人教員と外国人教員が同時に教壇に立ち、日英両言語を使いながら演繹的教授法および帰納的教授法の両方を適宜活用し、学生の総合的な英語運用能力を大きく伸ばすことを目標とする。
Integrated skills will be taught by native-speakers of Japanese and of English. The team-teaching methodology is based on a principled, purposeful use of both languages. The course objective is to improve integrated English language skills. Both a deductive approach and an inductive approach to the teaching of the use and usage of English will provide an efficient way to increase the size and the quality of vocabulary knowledge in listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills.
【授業内容・計画】
Before reading the syllabus given below, please note that this course is NOT designed for native speakers of English. Rather, it's for non-native speakers of English whose levels of English proficiency are above our intermediate range.
This course has three main aims: 1. to help students increase the size of their vocabulary and to improve the quality of their word nowledge; 2. to practice vocabulary learning strategies; and 3. to integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skill building by learning and using new words in authentic contexts. The coursebook, "The Greatest Common Divisors of 12 Selected English Verbs" and other photocopied materials were especially prepared for this course as a means of exploring the logic that connects words. Students must be sure to bring all the necessary learning materials to class. This course will be taught by two teachers, one Japanese and the other American. A key purpose of this team-teaching approach is to encourage students 1. to think deeply about the ways words are used and then, 2. to ask questions about language use in context. Students' questions and comments make invaluable contributions to the classroom learning environment.
Team-teaching, in the form of collaboration between a native speaker of English and a Japanese teacher, has been an important part of EFL educational policy at secondary schools in Japan since 1987. This course will be of great benefit to students who wish to become English teachers.
【授業についての留意点】
Always try to recycle what you've learned in class by using them in other classes. Be sure to bring your dictionary to classes with you.
【授業外の学習(自学自習)についての留意点】
Prepare for the next lesson, but your main focus should be put on reviewing. You are advised to go over the next lesson for 30 minutes, give or take, while you are encouraged to recycle for 60 minutes what you have learned.
