講義概要・到達目標
【授業の概要と方法 / Course Outline and Method】
This course reviews a wide range of theories exploring the nature and causes of conflict, the possibilities for conflict resolution, and the foundations of peace.
The course consists of two parts: the first part looks at the nature and causes of conflicts and introduces the basic field of inquiry. We will theoretically identify non-violent/violent conflict causes from various levels; the second part discusses theoretical and practical approaches to prevent and resolve conflicts peacefully.

1. To be able to grasp knowledge of the theories associated with peace studies.
2. To be able to identify what are the causes of non-violent/violent conflicts.
3. To be able to form and express individual and original perspectives and opinions about

【授業実施形態】
<BCP Level 1 or 2>
At least half the total number of classes or more (8 times) is to be conducted by hybrid format (face-to-face + online assistance). Remaining classes to be conducted online

All classes are to be conducted online in principle. ※1※2※3※4※5
※1 First class for all courses will be conducted online or hybrid (face-to-face and online) format. If conducting online classes, further information including class format will be announced on manaba+R for each course.
※2 Contact information of the instructor will be shared on manaba+R before the first class.
※3 If BCP Level is raised to Level 3 and above during the semester, all classes will be switched to online format as a general measure. There may be cases where face-to-face classes or hybrid classes are conducted even under BCP Level 3 or 4 depending on the situation.
※4 If any of the below criteria apply to students and they are not able to attend face-to-face class, online supplementary lesson materials will be provided for the entire course by the instructor. Please inform each instructor in advance; by around and before the 1st class of the course.
※5 If the BCP level changes during the semester, the class format will change in line with the new BCP level.

(1) Students are at greater risk of severe illness if contracting COVID-19 due to underlying or pre-existing medical conditions (*1).
(2) Students living with a family member with a greater risk of severe illness if contracting COVID-19 due to underlying or pre-existing medical conditions (*1).
(3) Students who are unable to enter or leave the country due to border control.
(*1): An underlying or pre-existing medical condition defined by the Japanese government is; respiratory illness, diabetes, and cardiac illness.
