授業の概要・目的
This class aims to give an overview of the most influential traditions of Indian philosophical thought and to present brief summaries of the main doctrines as presented in original sources. We will study the historical development and the main debates that shaped these traditions.
本講義では、インドの哲学的思想において最も影響力をもっていた哲学諸派を概観します。授業では、それぞれの学派が伝承してきた主な原典を参照しつつ、それぞれの教義について見ていきます。それによって、それらの諸伝統を形成している思想の歴史的発展と、諸伝統の間で交わされた主要な議論について考えていきます。授業ではサンスクリット語によって書かれた原典を参照しますが、サンスクリット語の知識が必須というわけではありません。また、本講義は英語で進められますが、TA（ティーチング・アシスト）による日本語の簡単な解説も同時に行われます。
到達目標
1) Students will learn about the principal themes and problems discussed in Indian philosophical thought.
2) Students will become familiar with the historical development of these themes.
3) Students will study the main arguments and positions upheld by competing traditions.
4) Students will study the most important intra-system debates that shaped the development of these traditions.
5) Students will compare the main concepts and methods of Indian philosophical thought with the beliefs of other philosophical traditions.

講義スケジュール
Week 1. Introduction. Is philosophy the same as tradition, darsana or tarka? How do we study it? Can we compare it to other traditions?
Week 2. The Vedas and Upanishads as the source. The argument of infallible tradition. The counter-argument of omniscient founders.
Week 3. The grammarians and the language of philosophy. The style and content of Patanjali's Great Commentary. The Vakyapadiya and linguistic monism.
Week 4. Abhidharma and the conceptual vocabulary of Buddhist thought.
Week 5. Yogachara idealism. Phenomenological and ontological emptiness.
Week 6. Nyaya. Knowledge and realism. Liberation through knowledge.
Week 7. Vaisesika categorization. Prasastapada.
Week 8. Samkhya dualism. The Samkhyakarika and the Yuktidipika.
Week 9. Yoga analysis of mental processes. The Yogasutra and its commentaries.
Week 10. Mimamsa hermeneutics. Kumarila and Prabhakara.
Week 11. Advaita Vedanta. Shankara and his followers
Week 12. Visistadvaita and Dvaita Vedanta. Theistic interpretations. Ramanujan and Madhva.
Week 13. Shaiva Siddhanta and Isvarapratyabhijna. Shaiva dualism and non-dualism
Week 14. Navya Nyaya. The Tattvacintamani and its influence on all schools of thought.
Week 15. Review.
第1週：序章。インド「哲学」は、インド思想における「ダルシャナ」や「タルカ」といった伝統と同じか？また、どのようにしてそれを学ぶのか？あるいは、他の伝統と比較することは可能なのか？
第2週：インド思想の資料としてのヴェーダとウパニシャッドについて。「無謬」についての伝統的な議論について。全知者としての創造者に対する反論。
第3週：文法学者と哲学の言語について。パタンジャリの『大注解』の文体と内容。バルトリハリの『ヴァーキャパディーヤ』と言語的一元論について。
第4週：アビダルマ思想および仏教の思想に見られる概念的な語彙について。
第5週：ヨーガーチャーラ（瑜伽行）派の観念論（唯心論）。現象学的および存在論的な「空」の思想について。
第6週：ニヤーヤ学派の知識論と実在論。彼らの考える「知識による解脱」とは。
第7週：ヴァイシェーシカ学派のカテゴリー論について。プラシャスタパーダによる著作を中心に。
第8週：サーンキヤ学派の二元論について。『サーンキヤ・カーリカー』と『ユクティ・ディーピカー』を中心に。
第9週：精神的なプロセスについてのヨーガ学派の考え方について。『ヨーガ・スートラ』とその注釈書を中心に。
第10週：ミーマーンサー学派の聖典解釈学について。クマーリラとプラバーカラの思想について。
第11週：アドヴァイタ・ヴェーダンタ（ヴェーダーンタ学派の不二一元論）について。シャンカラとその弟子たちの思想的伝統について。
第12週：ヴィシシュタ・アドヴァイタ（ヴェーダーンタ学派の限定（制限）不二一元論）とドヴァイタ・ヴェーダーンタ（ヴェーダーンタ学派の二元論）について。有神論的な解釈について。ラーマーヌジャとマドゥヴァの思想。
第13週：シャイヴァ・シッダーンタ（シヴァ教の伝統）と『イーシュヴァラ・プラティヤビジュニャー』について。シヴァ教の二元論と一元論。
第14週：ナヴィヤ・ニヤーヤ（新ニヤーヤ学派）について。『タットヴァ・チンターマニ』の内容と、その思想が他のすべての諸学派へ与えた影響について。
第15週：まとめ。
