授業の概要・目的
This class aims to give an overview of the most influential themes and problems debated in the Indian philosophical traditions as presented in original sources. We will study the historical development and the main debates that shaped these traditions.
本講義は、インドの哲学的伝統において最も影響力のあったテーマや、諸伝統の間で長年議論されてきた諸問題について概観します。授業では、原典の資料を紹介しながらそれぞれのテーマについて見ていきます。授業ではサンスクリット語によって書かれた原典を参照しますが、サンスクリット語の知識が必須というわけではありません。また、本講義は英語で進められますが、TA（ティーチング・アシスト）による日本語の簡単な解説も同時に行われます。
到達目標
1) Students will learn about the principal themes and problems discussed in Indian philosophical thought.
2) Students will become familiar with the historical development of these themes.
3) Students will study the main arguments and positions upheld by competing traditions.
4) Students will study the most important intra-system debates that shaped the development of these traditions.
5) Students will compare the main concepts and methods of Indian philosophical thought with the beliefs of other philosophical traditions.

Week 1. Introduction. Metaphysics, Ontology, Epistemology and Cosmology.
Week 2. Pramana Epistemology. What is an instrument of knowing? How many instruments are there?
Week 3. Perception
Week 4. Error and Doubt. What is error? How many types of doubt are there?
Week 5. Inference. How can vyapti be established?
Week 6. Verbal cognition. The relationship between word and meaning. What is a referent?
Week 7. Analogy. Is analogy reliable?
Week 8. Other means of knowledge.
Week 9. Competing ontologies. Elements, categories, or phenomena? Substances, qualities and relations.
Week 10. Theories of Causation.
Week 11. Transformatio, evolution, agency and action.
Week 12. The nature and qualities of the self.
Week 13. Non-existence.
Week 14. Theories of Time.
Week 15. Review.
第1週：序章。インド思想における重要なテーマ、形而上学、存在論、認識論、宇宙論について。
第2週：プラマーナ（認識論）について。正しく知るための道具とは何か？それはいくつあるのか？
第3週：正しい認識方法１。直接知覚について。
第4週：誤謬と疑いについて。認識における誤謬（誤り）とは何か？疑いにはどのような種類があるのか？
第5週：正しい認識方法２。推論について。推論における遍充関係はどのようにして確立されるのか？
第6週：正しい認識方法３。ことばによる認識について。ことばと意味の関係とは。ことばの指し示す対象とは何か？
第7週：正しい認識方法４。類推について。類推による認識は、正しい認識根拠として信頼できるのか？
第8週：その他の知識の手段について。
第9週：インド思想において論争される存在論について。存在は要素なのか、カテゴリーなのか、または現象なのか？物質と、性質、そしてそれらを結びつける諸関係について。
第10週：因果関係に関する理論。
第11週：物事の変様と展開について。行為の主体と行為について。
第12週：自己の本質と性質について。
第13週：非存在について。
第14週：インド思想における時間の理論について。
第15週：まとめ。
